Macquarie SBI Infrastructure Management Pte. Limited is the manager of the Macquarie SBI Infrastructure Fund (MSIF), which provides institutional and other large-scale investors located outside India with access to the growing number of investment opportunities available to the private sector in India’s infrastructure and infrastructure-like assets.
India’s economy has exhibited strong growth in recent years and is forecast to continue doing so. The demographic profile of the Indian population and the growth of India’s middle income and consumer class are already placing considerable pressure on India’s existing infrastructure. According to the Planning Commission of the Government of India, India’s infrastructure investment requirement over the five years 2008-2012 is estimated to be in the region of US$500 billion. A considerable proportion of this investment requirement is expected to come from the private sector.
MSIF invests mainly in assets that provide essential services to the local communities in which they operate, have sustainable competitive advantages, and deliver predictable cash flows over the long term.
MSIF is enabled to invest in parallel with a separate vehicle, SBI Macquarie Infrastructure Trust (SMIT), which will invest commitments received from domestic (i.e. Indian) investors. SMIT is managed by another joint venture between Macquarie, SBI and IFC: SBI Macquarie Infrastructure Management Private Limited.
